Live at the set with The Meteors in the movie
called
'Us begins with you'
date: july 9 1997
place: Brixton Academy, London.
I arrived at the London city airport at 9 where John picked me up. After
a small ride with the cab we arrived at the Brixton academy.
In the Academy it was already very busy. They wrote down our names, and
we got tea and coffee. Already some 30 fans were there.
The first filming with the Bitch boys began at about 11:00!
The movie is called 'us begins with you' and is about a
couple who fall in love with each other after seeing a gig of the Bitch Boys,
they were supposed to see the Beach Boys, but the organizer of the concert
made a mistake and booked the Bitch Boys, who are nothing else as The Meteors!
The Meteors performed in Hawaiian shirts surrounded by surfboards,
palmtrees a 'Bitch Boys' banner and loads of beach balls. For the occasion they
arranged a Beach Boys song in a real meteors style! It's a real good song, but we
had to hear it about 200 times that day!
The first shoot was very funny. We (50 people) had to wreck at the Bitch Boys. When we started the director was surprised about how we behaved. He thought we would do an ordinary pogo, and not expected that we would wreck! He said it was too wild, so we had to slow down, and jump around. A guy from the kattle asked what he had to do if he couldn't wreck, Paul Fenech then said that he had to do what he always did: intimidate! At the end we did something in between wrecking and putting arms in the air every now and then. After this shoot Paul Fenech started to chat with his audience, it was all a very laid back athmosphere. We all got free food and bought more beer.
After lunch we did shootings with the stars! I didn't know any of the actors since they were all English. John recognized them all I think, The main actors were Charles Dance and Jenny Seagrove. There were shootings in which we had to wreck while the actors were doing their conversations. At that moment there was no music which made the wrecking very difficult. These shootings took about 3 hours, which was extremely boring. After that there was a shooting in which we were allowed to wreck the way we always do, which was fun! John had the idea that it either made the actors laugh, or amazed them. After that we all got paid and could rest in the sun drinking beer.
The movie people left, and only the Meteors and the fans stayed. When the Meteors finally performed at around 8, everybody was tired. We were all lying down on the floor, a very strange and unknown athmosphere for a Meteors concert. Fenech shouted, 'if you're too fucked, fuck you! But after the next song he admitted he was fucked too. They played not very long, but long enough to play their favorite songs like Michael Myers, the Crazed, Rockabilly Psychosis, Chainsaw boogie, and many others. They even did an encore. Not more than 8 people wrecked... It was definately a concert to remember. They were still in hawaiian shirts and there was still this Bitch Boys banner when they played.
