| a combination of the fact that there are so many bands that its hard to give everyone a shot and idiot bookers who don't listen to every band they book or understand genres |

if shows like x factor/american idol and all its variants/america's got talent/etc keep going on the concept of skill will vanish by the end of the century |

I like Madness, but they were as much a mainstream pop act and they were and integral part of the first wave of ska in the UK. Their audience is mostly people in their forties getting their nostalgia fix so they need bands with 'mainstream appeal' to support them.
It would be nice to have some rockin' support, but it would turn off more people than it would turn on most likely. |

| That's a good comment didn't think about it that way but your right 80% of the crowd are on a 80s trip! I wonder if ppf played with them when madness first started? They both started in 1978 think that's when the raw deal was playing round London ? |

It partly gets overlooked because of all the lame dog shit on the psycho/rockin scene.
Morrissey, who has supported Madness, is the biggest name I can think of that has on occasion used rockabilly bands as support.
Mark Robertson's excellent Myspace has a pretty comprehensive list of early Meteors gigs |

| IF any 'billy type bands were to support a band such as Madness it should be someone such as The Long Tall Texans or maybe The Peacocks imo ,both bands who have Ska influences in many of their songs....but sadly, many of the people at the gig will have been there on a nostalgia trip, they may have liked Madness back in the day...but not been interested in any of the other Ska bands around at the same time, (Madness did become more pop than Ska in the end) never mind any of the 'billy bands from that period. |
