The new Quakes album came out last thursday and I finally got it!
I need to give special mention to the bonus stuff. I don't know how long it is or will be available, but any time there is free stuff I feel it is worth mentioning. You get a sticker, a button, and a comb.
The high point of the CD has to be either "Die too young" or "anti-social girl." The entire CD is filled with good lyrics and catchy tunes that are a little less intense than most of what I listen to. The lack of intensity is nice its good to mix up the pace. Great guitar riffs throughout, and lyrics are clear, making it easy to sing along to torture those around you. You also get a song book-something not common and something I miss in the digipack/download era.
The only two tracks I really dislike are "Festa do Estica e Puxa" and "Promise." Festa do Estica e Puxa is an instrumental piece, and generally speaking I am not a huge fan of instrumentals-especially long ones and that is the longest track on the album (there is a second instrumental-the bonus track which is much shorter, creepier and all out better as far as I am concerned). Promise feels sort of pop-music like, a bit too much for my taste; which leads me to my biggest issue. The pop feeling appears now and then. Normally it is well balanced but they go all out for promise.
The overall verdict is overwhelmingly positive. If you are a Quakes fan, or want something a bit more relaxed this is a definite buy. If you aren't a Quakes fan its still worth picking up and checking out.

I've only just now gotten my copy....
It freakin rocks!
I can't help but think this is more of a 'Neo-Rockabilly' album. |
