Personally, it sounds as though a lot more work has gone into it than 'Psychobilly'.

Like 'Hymns...', there's a lot more of the, for want of a better word, 'avant garde' influences in there, than the shout-along choruses and three chordery, and to me, this is no bad thing as its a great vehicle to display PPF's diversity. I agree 100% with Shafra that a lot of it wouldn't sound out of place on a PPF solo or LRD album, but so what? I think its a vast improvement on the fairly one-dimensional 'Psychobilly', and shows that 'pure psychobilly' doesn't have to keep to a formula. I, for one, would welcome more releases like this, although it seems that I may be in the minority here!!

Didn't buy the album as I didn't listen to the previous few much: But this review got me interested.

Ive just ordered it -purely on the strength of the above review - so can I get a refund from you LiamRevenge if I don't like it?

haha, no! Laughing

I like it and the direction they're going in

Devilbone, the old man down the road, surfin on a dead girl..........
musically it's spot on, great mix of sounds, pace and rockabilly. For me its a bit relentless lyrically and vocally, but i know that's the whole point.

Money well spent

This is a good record.

Period.

I think that at first the anvil and the WHOO WHOO on "Hate Train" put me off a bit... but then I came back to it and found my self pounding on the steering wheel screaming during the chorus. Though the acapella bit at the end wasn't really necessary..

And Creepy... Holy shit.. few songs have ever made me stop and just say "damn...". Picturing the lyrics can drum some pretty disturbing shit in my head especially when you hear him gritting his teeth telling the bitch to die. Genuinely fucking creepy.

Devilbone... fucking loved it. PPF managed to successfully mix in Chicago harp playing with psychobilly.. and did it well.

And "This Town"... I think all of us musicians can relate.

I liked it, but I really REALLY liked Hymns for the Hellbound. on Hell Train, I listen to it & cant stop "never gonna stop, never gonna stop , never stop the fuckin hate train no!"

but I always come back to Hymns & flick straight to "paradise Lost"

makes me go all goosebumpy!

never noticed that anvil sound until you pointed that out. Dont think it came through in the shitty stereo in my truck. The whole album was actually very blurry sounding the first few times I heard it (which was only on the road). Good album though. This town is also my favorite outta the 12

I haven't heard it yet. I try not to listen to much music when we're in the middle of recording an album though. Once we're done, I'll give it a spin and write an honest review.
