Not too long ago, I mysteriously got ahold of a rough copy of the latest Rocketz album, "We Are The Rocketz." I immediately put it in my disc spinner, and, to say the least, I was hooked. The strongest aspect of this album is how incredibly dynamic the moods are, its longevity and the catchiness of the album while there are few imperfections that detract from the listeneding experience.

The songwriting in this album stretches across an amazing number of audiences, catering to connoisseurs of rockabilly and punk and to the lighter listeners fo music. But most importantly, it covers these grounds without losing stamina. The influences and roots of the writing are broad while the tones of the songs range anywhere from violently aggressive, to joyous barroom anthems to the pits of the lonely times. The tracks featured on this album are broad, genuine, and deliver a very definable "Rocketz sound."

The best thing in "We Are The Rocketz" is definitely the untiring style that carries through the entirety of it all. You'd think that within all the dynamic tracks, there would be a few songs that make you say "Is this The Rocketz?" Instead, every track lets you know exactly who is behind the instruments. Each song defines the authors better than the liner notes, authenticating a new and unmimicable sound.

There are a good number of tracks from this album that spontaneously show up stuck in my head. In the past month, I have purchased around 15-20 albums, listened to somewhere in the 100's and seen somewhere around 30-40 bands play live. Out of all of the music I have heard in the past month, there are none that spontaneously show up in my head more than the Rocketz tracks featured on this album. There has to be a strong, poppy element deeply hidden in the tracks of this album.

With the diversity of the album, though, there comes a time when it feels like some songs happened because of a target audience, rather than the creative ambitions of the musicians. When I hear something like that, it pushes me away triggering my "marketing radar." But when a band puts out such a diverse album, there are always going to be a few misses for each individual ecperience. Fortunately, even the minimal misses on "We Are The Rocketz" rarely get the skip button.

As you listen to this album, there will definitely be songs that you like, and they will be different for everybody. And THEN you'll find a few other tracks appearing randomly in you head. "We Are The Rocketz" is solid as it draws you to the album as a whole. With genuine song writing, relentlesly hidden hooks, and a very dynamic head this album will be in you player for quite a while.

I got the mastered copy back on Tuesday last week. It was bitter sweet since Andy will have never heard it. But its been in heavy rotation around The Martinez Family home. Some of you on here were sent an unmixed/unmastered copy for an honest critique, this final copy sounds fantastic. There was also a few questions as to why we included a drum solo but now I think it is so appropriate as it fades out on the very last track.

Also, we had time to go back and redo some vocal takes and so now our cover of DK's Holiday in Cambodia will now be on this release, as well as a songc called Come Back To Me...which wasnt going to make the cut.

next step..shopping the CD to some labels...

Cheerz.

Oh dear, you caught that. Laughing
Lesson to be learned, everything typed can become some kind of sexual remark. Laughing
