| Can anyone recommend a good beginner double bass, that's cheap but has all the function? |

| Don't. Buy. New. You are never going to find a new bass that's worth playing for less than, hell, a thousand. My recommendation is to look in pawn shops or other sleazy venues that might not know what they have. Try out a couple of basses, see what feels right, and shell out the couple of hundred bucks to a specialist to take a look at it and see if it is feasible. I had the lucky break of working for an upright bass repair man for a while, we found a broken bass, repaired it together, and I got it for three hundred bucks (I worked off about four hundred of it before that too, haha). Don't buy anything you are too invested in though, live shows loose a little bit of the magic if you treat your instrument like glass. |
