Grey area for the networks facilitating the transfers, black and white for the actual file sharing. With copyrighted software/data files, legally you don't really own them you are licensing the right to use them for personal use. This license can be revoked by the copyright holders.
Receiving the files isn't so much illegal it is distributing them.
Of course depending on where you are, certain laws will differ.
Long story made short: File sharing of any type is frowned upon here. Linking to it can cause legal issues for the site and may piss of the musicians who actually played/wrote the music and paid to have the music recorded. |

I know, and thats why I retracted the idea. That is of course unless you are from sweden, where there is a group who have found a loophole and made file sharing the base of their religion... (religion point not to bring up religion in general, but meant more as just a fun random fact) |
